Animal's Behavior
Africa’s smallest swine, Red River (Potamocherus porcus) hogs are also the most brightly colored of all wild pigs. They can grow to 250 pounds and live up to 20 years.
Eating Habits
They’ll eat almost anything – roots, tubers, eggs, small mammals. They can disrupt agricultural efforts as they root around for food.
Range
African rainforests, near rivers and swamps.
Conservation Efforts
Red River hogs are a species of least concern, with no appreciable conservation efforts underway.
Animal Fact
These hogs are mainly nocturnal and they’re great swimmers, holding their breath underwater for long periods of time. Their bumpy faces and small sharp tusks give them a distinctive appearance!
