SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction
SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction® is a program that combines the power of zoo and aquarium visitors with resources and expertise of Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoos and aquariums to save vulnerable wildlife species from extinction. Audubon Nature Institute has supported sharks, rays, and penguins through this program.
Audubon’s involvement in the creation of the program helped get the program operational. As such, Audubon Nature Institute is a founding supporter of the SAFE program and one of the top zoos that showed the commitment. Audubon has continued its support through a substantial, multi-year pledge to help ensure that the program continues to mature.
The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) is dedicated to the advancement of zoos and aquariums in the areas of conservation, education, science, and recreation. As part of AZA's mandatory accreditation process, AZA members like Audubon Nature Institute meet rigorous professional standards for animal welfare, veterinary care, wildlife conservation, scientific research, education, expert staffing and safety.
AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums—such as Audubon Zoo and Audubon Aquarium of the Americas—are leaders in the protection of endangered species. Look for the AZA logo whenever you visit a zoo or aquarium as your assurance that you are supporting an institution dedicated to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for you, and a better future for all living things.
