Offer your students an enhanced learning experience at Audubon Aquarium of the Americas.

Aqua School Field Trips provide engaging opportunities to give your students an enhanced learning experience while visiting the Aquarium. Audubon’s phenomenon-based programs are aligned with state science standards and are designed for the equity of all students.

All programs are also available for home-school groups of 10 or more students.

Saving Our Seas: A Lesson on Marine Debris (6th-8th grades) - Explore our world’s seas and how citizens of all ages can help combat ocean plastics. Students will examine the effects of marine plastics on seabirds in the Pacific and learn their connections to our local Gulf Coast. Saving our Seas: A Lesson on Marine Debris is brought to you thanks to a generous gift from Keep Louisiana Beautiful through the Healthy Communities Grant. Support is also provided by the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program’s Education Opportunity Program. (45 minutes per session)

Shark Dissection Classes (8th-12th grades ONLY) - A unique and unforgettable chance to learn about sharks, not just from books and videos, but hands-on and from real-life observations! Bring your class to the Aquarium and participate in a shark dissection – come see what makes these amazing predators tick. Please note: This class is only available to 8th-12th grade groups and costs $6.00 per student over the regular group admission fee to cover the cost of supplies. (45 minutes per session)

NEW! Squid Dissection Classes (4th-12th grades ONLY) – A unique and unforgettable chance to learn about squid, not just from books and videos, but hands-on and from real-life observations! Bring your class to the Aquarium and participate in a squid dissection—find out more about these incredibly unique creatures! Please note: this is only available to 4th-12th grade groups and costs $6.00 per student over the regular group admission fee to cover the cost of supplies. (45 minutes per session)

NEW! JAWsome Science (3rd-5th grades) What bites? Come explore the incredible world of sharks and find out why our ocean needs them to stay healthy. Students will sink their teeth into shark anatomy and find out what makes these animals so JAWsome. Each session covers food webs, animal adaptations, ocean ecology and lots of hands-on learning. (45 minutes per session)

Fur, Feathers, and Fins (1st-7th grades) - Explore the characteristics of the five basic animal groups - mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish - in this interactive program. Students compare the similarities and differences of each group of animals understanding the basics of classification. Includes a live animal encounter. (45 minutes per session)

The Sea & Me (PreK & Kindergarten) - A fun program for our younger visitors, The Sea & Me engages the little ones through activities and curriculum from Growing Up WILD: Exploring Nature with Young Children. Early childhood groups will enjoy learning about ocean life including a live animal encounter. (30-45 minutes per session)

Group Size: 30 is the maximum number of students per session. Maximum 2 sessions offered per day.
Time:
 Sessions are available at 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays.
Cost: $4.00 per student over the regular school group admission fee, except Shark and Squid Dissections which are $6.00 per student.
