Animal’s Behavior
Black-and-white ruffed lemurs (Varecia variegata variegata) are important seed-dispersers, ingesting seeds and then depositing them as waste in other areas.

Eating Habits
Lemurs are frugivores, also eating leaves, seeds and nectar.

Eastern Madagascar, and on the island of Nosy Mangabe.

Conservation Efforts
These are big, beautiful animals with a desirable pelt who are also hunted for meat. They make an easy target. Due to a severe population decline, they are listed as Critically Endangered.

Scent-marking and vocalizations are used as a means of communication, not only to keep the group together but also to keep others out of established territories.
