We are busy at the Nature Center getting ready to open Fall 2017!
An oasis in Eastern New Orleans, Audubon Louisiana Nature Center had lovely meandering nature boardwalks, a popular planetarium, tranquil spots for birdwatching and fun activities for everyone. After the flood devastation from Hurricane Katrina, the vision was to rebuild the Nature Center and make it better than ever, retaining all its original beauty and developing its role as a true community partner while bringing it up to today’s standards for sustainability and environmental programming.
There have been ongoing efforts to manage the regrowth of the hardwood bottomland forest surrounding the physical structures of the Nature Center. Meanwhile, Audubon leadership carefully steered the rebuilding approval process through myriad governing channels, including FEMA, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, city and state government, neighbors and community leaders.
