Zoo School

August 2016 - May 2017: Offer your students an engaging learning experience.

Zoo School offers an opportunity to give your students an enhanced and engaging learning experience while on a field trip to the Zoo. All programs are aligned with state science standards, and many can be modified for any age group. Programs allow for a maximum of 60 students (30 per session) and includes Expedited Check-in and time to explore the Zoo.

All programs are also available for home school groups of 10 or more students.

These programs are available for any age group:

Jungle School - Journey through the Zoo to our Jungle Hut in Jaguar Jungle and learn about the wonders of the rainforest. Each session covers topics including forest ecology, food webs, animal adaptations, and includes an animal encounter. (45 minutes per session)

Swamp School - Follow the bayou to the heart of the Louisiana Swamp Exhibit and learn about the importance of Louisiana's wetlands. Students discuss wetland ecology, functions of wetlands, and animal adaptations. Each class ends with a live animal encounter. (45 minutes per session)

New Program! Fur, Feathers, and Fins – Explore the characteristics of the five basic animal groups - mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish - in this interactive program. Students compare the similarities and differences of each group of animals understanding the basics of classification. Includes a live animal encounter. (45 minutes per session)

New Program! Wild Tales – Don’t have time for a full classroom program but still want to make your field trip more exciting? Wild Tales offers your group a 20 minute chat with an Audubon Educator on a topic of your choice. The Educator will meet your group at the front gate and assist with Expedited Check-in. This program is easily tailored to accompany classroom curriculum. Topic ideas include habitats, adaptations, specific animals or conservation issues.

Pre-K and Kindergarten Programs

New Program! Is Your Mama a Llama? – Pre-K and Kindergarten students learn all about animal mothers and their babies and parental care. The program includes story time, interactive games and a live animal encounter.

New Program! The Zoo & You – A fun new program for our younger visitors, The Zoo & You engages the little ones through activities and curriculum from Growing Up WILD: Exploring Nature with Young Children. Early childhood groups will enjoy learning about nature and animals including a live animal encounter.

Age: Most programs can be adapted for any age group
Time: Group arrival 9:30am – Expedited Check-in with Educator
         Sessions 10:00am and 10:45am
         (Depending on the number of students)
Cost: $3.00 per student over the regular school group admission fee.
